LOSER OF THE STREET: MAXIM GORKY

The writer (1868-1936) who championed the Communist Revolution and Soviet-style socialist realism lost his address to glasnost. Gorky Street, Moscow's main drag, which was christened in his honor in 1932, was given back its 15th century name: Tverskaya Street.
